NENA K. ROBBINS
I was saved as a child in Portales, NM but I did not follow the Lord for many years. I met my husband in Las Cruces, NM, and since 1973 Jim and I have been active Christians. In 1978 we moved to Houston, TX with four children of school age. Due to the fact that public school had drug-sniffing dogs and armed policemen in the hallways, we explored other options for our children’s education. Finding that Christian schools supported what we lived at home and what our church taught, we enrolled them in a local Christian School. They were raised to respect authority, to love God, and to raise-up and train their own children to follow the Lord. With all of our children living for the Lord, and eight grandchildren who all love the Lord, we feel the expense of Christian schools was well worth it.
We have been married for 39 years; have lived in Las Cruces, Artesia and Alto, NM; and in Victoria, Friendswood, League City, and El Paso, TX; as well as three years in England. I first began working in a Christian School in Alvin, TX as the receptionist/secretary/registrar, and was there for seven years. In El Paso, I was the receptionist/secretary/registrar at another small Christian School for 8 years until we moved to England. Then we moved back to the US and moved into our vacation home in Alto, and I began working at SBCA in August 2006 as the office manager. I am currently on the SBCA Board.
Even if Christian teachers in public school have the right priorities, having to teach secular curriculum that undermines and denigrates Christian beliefs will not “train your children in the way they should go, so that they will not depart from it when they are grown” as the Word of God commands us to do. Many people have lost their Christian faith and Christian standards by the time they get to college, and if not by then they lose it while in college. Therefore I am sold on Christian Education!
